It is only necessary to obtain a Kuwait transit visa if you are transiting through Kuwait and are spending more than 24 hours there, or if you are staying for under 24 hours and want to leave the airport.

A transit visa for Kuwait is valid for a maximum stay of seven days. They can be obtained from a Kuwait Consulteabroad or from a Port Authority. Applicants must be able to show proof of onward travel (travel ticket and/or visa for the next destination). The fee for a Kuwait transit is KD2.

It is only recommended to consider leaving the airport if your transit is longer than four hours. There are things to do at the airport such as lounges, shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Who needs a Kuwait Transit Visa?

Citizens from Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (nationals of GCC Countries) can enter Kuwait visa-free and therefore do not need a Kuwait transit visa. They can also enter the country without a passport (using a national ID card).

Other nationalities who are transiting through Kuwait need a transit visa if they are staying for longer than 24 hours or if they wish to leave the airport during their transit.
